And even though it is unusual it is kind of interesting. There is an "issue" with the audio in this film. But it only bothered me in 5.
Watching it in 2. And I enjoy The Crush so much that the audio didn't affect the film for me. The video quality of the Blu Ray is excellent.
It is sharp and pops the colors like the DVD never could. The extras are slim which is kind of a let down because Shout Factory has managed to do amazing extras for other films but a few extras are better than none.
I would have enjoyed an interview with Alicia Silverstone or Cary Elwes. But it's for. Once we discover what our "hero" is really up against with this evil teenage creature it sends disturbing ripples through the whole film.
We are swimming in dark water that is filled with a diabolical pubescent female shark. The viewer starts looking for any movement beneath the surface because we don't know when or how those dangerous teeth will strike again.
That cold dark water will soon be foaming with red hot blood. Just when you thought it was safe to rent a guest house He lands a guest house at the Forrester's to stay, and soon meets the Forrester's 14 year old daughter, Adrian, who instantly has a crush on Nick despite his age.
Unfortunately for Nick, Adrian tries her very psychotic-best to turn Nick's world upside down by sabotaging his entire life with work, relationships, and himself so she can have Nick all to herself.
In my opinion, this is a very well done psycho-thriller about a young girl who becomes the predator instead of the other way around.
The camera angles of each shot are also very clever and nothing seems too cheesy for being an early 90's film.
The acting is also really well done, and each scene always keeps you wanting more. This is definitely a cult classic as far as soft psycho-thrillers go and I would recommend to anyone.
I just started to watch "The Crush" and I already have a favorite part. Cary Elwes's character is at the juncture and a dawning of his realization of a unwanted relationship with a 14 year old girl Alicia Silverstone, good in this as a manipulating pop tart.
After she comes on to him strong, he's alone thinking about it and pouring a strong vodka frantically. You wonder where this story will end starting with that.
She's pscylogically screwing with him; you feel for him, man. Enter his girlfriend, his job, his life and things start to go haywire real quick. Silverstone's best work is right here, no doubt.
She's scary. It works and the movie is a warning to all men anywhere. Watch out for that eye candy. I never like to say too much when I review a DVD just in case there's someone reading that hasn't seen it before but there's a reason we bought it and a reason we gave it 5 stars and are recommending it in this review!
Alicia Silverstone unfortunately is at the center of this film. I didn't see what was so attractive about her, but a writer rents a cottage from her father and she drapes herself all over the setting.
Another character, apparently Alicia's only friend, Cheyenne, also falls prey to her histrionics, until there really is no one left to bother--except her psychiatrist, of course a good-looking man in her orbit who also seems attracted to her.
But she is no Lolita, thank the heavens, and since she is still a kid, we know she will screw up the doctor's life and then undoubtedly move on to another character--but pretty soon she will be an adult, a bad seed, but able to pay for her misdeeds.
I was excited when I heard the bluray was coming out. So Being a big Crush fan, I had to get it. The few extras were pretty disappointing. I will say the HD picture is good, but they could have done a much better job on this release.
The VHS is actually the best version to watch really and it's the only version where you hear Darian instead of Adrian.
Great thriller though, I'd highly recommend checking out. Alicia Silverstone is brilliant in her first film role. One person found this helpful.
