The acting is superb and it is a musical; the singing is truly great Sinatra and Crosby, wow. I found that Bing Crosby had a richer, fuller voice at this young age.
Frank Sinatra is divine. Grace Kelly is her genuinely classy, lovely self. She grew up wealthy and this part seems hand-scripted for her. Grace is delightful.
Period-piece fans like I will appreciate the homes, furniture, and fabulous clothing of the early 50's.
My husband enjoyed this and he is not the Musical type so I thought. My, my I think everyone in the family will be charmed by this slightly fluffy yet very smart film.
Oh, and Louis Armstrong sings, plays, and adds substance and a counterpoint to High Society overall. Just great! And it was great knowing that this film was "safe" and we could watch it in peace with no violence, foul language, etc.

It reminded me in part of Walt Disney's The Happiest Millionaire, but more of an adult version, but a innocent fun playful version from another era in time -- made me feel like I was watching a dream and in a time when life was safer and simpler.
I loved the playful adult love and pursuit and when men were bold men and went for the women like men. And the women had a grace and class about them -- though today's culture says the women were too much of women -- I disagree.
The women had a grace and class about them that was just beautiful. Even the mother who had been mistreated, even with her broken spirit in the movie -- the young strength of her daughters fighting for their mother was really special -- as they did it was class and grace.
Bing and Frank were great in this movie, really played the roles perfect. There were scenes when I really laughed as they were unlike anything I have ever seen.
They really don't make movies like this anymore and it isn't even that the times have changed, it is much more there just are no actors like these actors today.

Overall a fun film Cons: 1. A rather corny film with mediocre acting. I enjoyed this film mostly because of the musical scenes where Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra sing, and Louis Armstrong plays incredible jazz music.
The story is almost the same, except that High Society has lots of popular music, the main character is a jazz musician, and Sinatra represents a tabloid instead of a newspaper.
I have never liked the Philadelphia Story, so my feelings for the story here don't change. I only watch this for its musical numbers, and watching Crosby pairing with Armstrong to delightful songs by Cole Porter is worth a treat.
But here you have most of the story and Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and best of all Louie Armstrong, and tagging along is his band. Put Grace Kelly in with 3 men chasing her, you have a musical on a grand scale.
Grace is having a party celebration at her Mom's mansion for a pre wedding to John Lund. SDhowing up at the celebration is Crosby who was her ex-husband and who is still in love with Grace.
In addition, to get a story for their magazine, Frank Sinatra and Celese Holmes show up to interview how the rich live and ask incisive questions to Grace.
There is great music in this movie, plus comedy. With Sinatra and Crosby you get great singing of great Cole Porter songs. Interworven into the story is the timeless song with Crosby and Kelly singing, "True Love".
Sinatra and Crosby sing a song together which is a real treat by the two crooners. Among the highlights of this movie is a great jazz performce with Armstrong and his band, accompanied with Crosby and his singing.
But, the storyline is great as Grace has a romantic interest now at the party with Sinatra, but also has risen feelings with her ex-husband, Crosby.
And Celeste Holmes has a thing for Sinatra. Grace kelly gets smashed at the party with hilarious consequences and her fiance is not amused at all.
Who ends up with who is the climax of the movie which, if you have never seen it before, is worth seeing, and I will not reveal it.

Translate all reviews to English. There's surely nothing new that can be said of this "Classic". It sure isn't the greatest musical by any means, if "musical" is the right term to use.
It was more a case of a comedy with musical numbers. What sets it apart from so many of the musical offerings of its era is its stellar cast not to mention music.
Although Sinatra probably comes out on top in terms of acting, it's difficult to outshine Grace Kelly in terms of sheer beauty.
If you add to that the eternal popularity of Bing Crosby, albeit as wooden as ever, you end up with one of the most sparkling offerings of its time.
The inclusion of the magical Cole Porter to the mix leaves the shortcomings of the film somewhat irrelevant, by comparison.
Yes, it's cheesy, Hollywoody and all that, but it's still as breezy and entertaining as ever. This particular edition has been beautifully cleaned up on DVD, and only betrays its age in one or two short exterior shots where the print quality suddenly deteriorates into what looks like a grainy blow up of 8mm.
The remaining 99 percent of the film looks glorious, and the sound not far behind for its age. Star rating for this movie is a bit tough, because although I loved it, I also realize that there is much you can criticize if you want to.
Three stars would not have done justice to my own personal enjoyment of the film, although 5 stars would be somewhat over the top. Et voila!

Talented Cast, Great sets , Magical Music and a scrpit that is well written. This all adds up to a truly lovely Film. I was indeed privileged to meet Mr Crosby at his dressing room at the London Palladium just three weeks prior to his death while playing Golf.
